Databases of Pre-Modern Female Scribes
"Nearly all scribes were men."
The fallacy that female scribes did not exist, or only existed in insignificant numbers, still haunts the history of pre-modern writing. In order to challenge this, this site exists to host two databases tracking the existence of female scribes before 1500 AD.
The first list covers female
scribes’ surviving works: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AI-q7r02GrFjUzonnqodZiGUvSFTDyxo/view?usp=sharing
The second list notes female scribes mentioned in other sources: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R5_dQ5NA3x1tyQagJMlCMCHhep_OWCr_/view?usp=sharing
Very good database, thanks for the work.
